Working with one of the largest passenger transport operators in the UK

Rotala is a bus management company that operates a fleet of buses across West Midlands & Worcestershire, also operating in the East Midlands, North West, and London.

Like many companies in the transportation industry, Rotala deals with a vast amount of data on a daily basis. This data includes ticketing information, driver details and bus schedules, and they needed a way to bring all of these data sources into a singular platform in order to effectively run reports and make data-driven decisions.

This is where our data analytics services came into play. We helped Rotala by compiling the data from their various data sources, transforming and sanitising it to build them cross-system reports.

Unifying data from different systems into something usable

The platform we developed included a range of reports tailored to various uses, such as analysing lost mileage, tracking cancelled tickets, generating operational reports, and providing commercial insights. The system allowed for the creation of user groups and teams, enabling Rotala Hub to control access to specific data based on roles and responsibilities. We also assisted in integrating with a provider to access DVLA details for each driver, enabling driver reporting.

Providing the directors with reports and new data insights to help make key business decisions

We created reports that pulled in millions of points of data from multiple sources to provide new insights and data that the directors of the business use to make key business decisions.

One of the key reports we built for the project was combining the data from the ticketing machines with the bus schedules. This integration allowed Rotala to better understand key elements such as the number of passengers, peak travel times, revenue generated by each bus, and more. By bringing these data sources together, the company was able to gain valuable insights into their operations and optimise their service delivery.

Within the system, we also created a contact directory for all employees, ensuring efficient communication and collaboration within the organisation. We also implemented a security policy upload and storage system to safeguard sensitive information and comply with data protection regulations.

Building enhanced security features

We also custom-built one of the security features requested. We needed to custom build a 2-factor authentication, that specifically used email. As we found no suitable pre-built solutions, we custom-built the system to send a one-time passcode when someone needed to access the system.

Our collaboration with Rotala Hub has given them a comprehensive data management platform that streamlined operations, enhanced their decision-making, and improved overall efficiency for the bus management company. By centralising their data sources and utilising advanced analytics tools, we continue to work closely with them and help take their operations to the next level.
